These volumes, one with text, another with illustrations, represent (to the best of my knowledge) quite a new approach to medical education. Just as NASA is training astronauts and using simulators, the authors of this book have designed 20 simulated clinical problems that are to be answered by gently rubbing the special marker over the blank area to the right of each question. Topics such as "The Pale Lethargic Child," "Low Back Pain," "Headaches," "Fever," and "Patient Short of Breath" are treated. The various problems proceed with questions to be answered more often than not accompanied by suggestions about some laboratory analysis that could be helpful. All the time the simulated patient gets the benefit of the physician's acumen, without running any risks and with the added pleasantry that each problem will, ultimately, be solved.
