ABSTRACT

This manual is designed to present easy-to-perform, reliable analytical procedures for 63 toxic materials most likely to be encountered in our environment. There are many books and manuals for the analysis of different toxic substances; however, Manual of Analytical Toxicology has a significant difference from the others. It was written primarily for the analysis of toxic compounds in suspected poisoning of a human victim.

By pinpointing the toxic substance, the physician can determine the best treatment for the patient. For effective use of the manual, mutual cooperation of physician and laboratory is essential. The physician should describe the symptoms of the patient to the clinical chemist, so that the latter can assist in deciding which determination should be performed immediately so that appropriate treatment can still be started. Otherwise, the chemist may be faced with the task of analyzing a small sample for too many substances with insufficient time.
