This interesting volume, published in 1971, is in part original and in part a reprint of two chapters from the very complete two-volume edition of Nephrology from the Department of Nephrology of the Hôpital Necker in Paris, under the guidance of Jean Hamburger. This small paperback volume contains the reprint of two chapters, one concerning anatomy and embryology of renal tissue and the other on physiology. In addition, J. P. Grunfeld of the Hôpital Necker has written an appendix which includes most of the recent developments in the field and this material was translated into English by Anthony G. Walsh who also translated the original two-volume French edition. The avowed purpose of this book is to make available to medical students a brief and inexpensive summary of modern renal anatomy and physiology. In this goal the authors have succeeded admirably.
