This is the 30th volume in the series of recent results in cancer research. It deals with advances in the treatment of acute (blastic) leukemia as presented at the plenary session of the European Organization for Research on Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) in 1969. This group, comprised of a number of European medical centers, is actively engaged in basic cancer research, drug development, and collaborative clinical research. Several American investigators have also contributed to this two-day meeting and have reported results of cooperative study groups in the United States.
The first chapter contains an impressive amount of information on several drugs that have recently come to clinical trial, such as daunomycin (Daunorubicin) and asparaginase. Some interesting animal studies and clinical trial with immunotherapy are described.
In the second chapter different therapeutic approaches to acute myeloblastic leukemia are discussed. Most progress has been made in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) of childhood
