The purpose of the second edition of So You Have Glaucoma is to present information to the patient with glaucoma that will give him a better understanding of his condition and enable him to take better care of himself. It is not the intent of the authors to suggest the best forms of treatment in a specific case of glaucoma, a complex disease which manifests itself in varying types and varying degrees of severity.
The author stresses the necessity of the patient following the advice of his or her own ophthalmologist. There is repeated warning throughout the text that damage resulting from carelessness is cumulative and can make the difference between useful vision and blindness.
