This is the second edition of a procedure manual for an inhalation therapy service. It sets forth the organization of such a unit with job descriptions for inhalation therapists, including the chief therapist, as well as technicians. It outlines the inhalation therapy procedures and techniques used at the University of Michigan University Hospital. Each description details the steps which are the responsibility of physician, ward clerk, inhalation therapist, and nurse. Oxygen analyzers, humidifiers, nebulizers, various methods of oxygen therapy, and different types of respirators are discussed. Finally, there are sections on drugs used in inhalation therapy, the cleaning and sterilizing of equipment, as well as a presentation of the methods of record keeping and patient rounds employed at the authors' hospital.
