Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy—1969.

Although this volume is featured as the Transactions of the Ninth Annual Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy held under the sponsorship of the American Society for Microbiology, it is, in fact, part of a longer continuous series of similar conferences, having the same general objectives, involving similar groups of participants and dating back to 1953. In that year, the First Antibiotic Symposium was held in Washington on October 28 to 30 under the chairmanship of Henry Welch, Director of the Division of Antibiotics of the Food and Drug Administration, and under the joint sponsorship of that agency and of the journal Antibiotics and Chemotherapy which was jointly edited and published by Welch with Felix Marti-Ibanez. The transactions of that symposium were published in a volume entitled Antibiotics Annual 1953-1954 with the same editors and publishers.
