At the Eighth Symposium Neuroradiologicum in Paris a broadly focused discussion on cerebral circulation was held by neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroanatomists, radiologists, and neurophysiologists (38 contributors). This volume represents the compilation for this meeting.
Since the work by Kety and Schmidt in 1948 on cerebral circulation, tremendous progress has been made to broaden our understanding of the circulation of the central nervous system. Different specialties have performed investigations from their specific points of view. It becomes obvious on studying this book that the progress that has been made is due to interdisciplinary collaboration. Studies of the cerebral circulation by angiographic, radioisotopic, micro-densitometry, and by ultrasound methods are presented. Throughout the discussions the clinical evaluation is never forgotten, even if highly technical and experimental methods are presented.
The use of radioactive oxygen to study cerebral circulation is presented. This agent allows quite revealing studies of regional cerebral oxygen supply and utilization.
