To date, most textbooks in nuclear medicine have attempted to be complete texts and were written mainly for practitioners in the field. Other books have been published which consider limited aspects of radioactive isotopic technique and application. Maynard's book stands between these poles. It is the first practical introductory text and daily guide for understanding and performing commonly used radionuclide studies. It is also inexpensive.
For easy reference, the author follows a standard format including in order, a short introduction, basic principles, applicable radioactive pharmaceuticals, patient preparation, the procedure itself, clinical indications and results, and a conclusion, in which the salient points for each procedure are reviewed. Each topic is presented briskly.
Physically, the book is a technical delight. Paper and the printing are excellent; illustrations are plentiful and reproduced flawlessly. The binding is sturdy and well finished.
