A combined committee from the International Congresses of Neurology and Neurosurgery, designated The Research Group on Head Injuries, met in Washington DC, in March 1969. This volume includes the proceedings of this meeting as well as a discussion of each category by one of the senior editors. The material was divided into six major groups which were: (1) Post-traumatic Syndrome, (2) Post-traumatic Epilepsy, (3) Rehabilitation of the Brain-Injured, (4) Medicolegal Problems of the Head-Injured, (5) Pathology, and (6) Prospectus and Recommendations.
The initial section on the posttraumatic syndrome was perhaps somewhat belabored. Although considering several general aspects of posttraumatic problems, the chief point was the so-called "postconcussion syndrome." The circuitous nature of these discussions probably represents an accurate reflection of the current "state of the science" rather than a fault of the authors. Very little was included here that is not all too familiar to the average practitioner of neurology
