Fluorescein Angiography of the Retina is basically an atlas produced by the collaboration between Wessing, a German ophthalmologist, and the Karl Zeiss Company, one of the primary equipment manufacturers in this field. Von Noorden translated the text into English. The result is an excellent compilation of normal and abnormal angiographic studies of the retino-choroidal circulation. This form of clinical investigation is now firmly established in the ophthalmologic community, and it is not at all surprising to see the appearance of reference texts.
The basic technique consists of intravenous administration of a bolus of fluorescein during retinal examination, with use of a blue light capable of exciting fluorescence in the circulating dye. A retinal camera substitutes for the clinical observer, and with the development of motordriven, automatic photographic equipment, serial photographs can be obtained. The equipment used by the author also shows sequence of exposure and circulation time on each retinal
