Profiles in Trauma is a "labor of love" by Curry who died before it was completed. The volume contains biographical sketches of 43 surgeons considered by the authors to be the outstanding international figures. In addition, six brief resumes by Isidore Cohn are included.
The book has no great merit from the standpoint of imparting technical knowledge, but it should be of unique interest to physicians as an affirmation of the worthiness of their own struggle. Each contributor has brought out the well-known facts in each biography, but, in addition, has leavened the presentation with a description of factors which influenced the individual and helped shape his professional personality. Styles vary greatly, but this adds to the joy of this unusual volume which will be appreciated by physicians and the laity.
