As volume 1, this work inaugurates the production of a new handbook of clinical neurology. The last large handbook appeared in 1936, and the one that preceded it came out in 1911, so it would seem that the time has arrived for a new encyclopedic work. Furthermore, the authors feel that the changing and enlarging status of clinical neurology since World War II demands a modernized source book.
It appears that the project will produce around 30 volumes in all. The present book consists of 20 chapters, covering a wide variety of not too directly related subjects, grouped under the very general title of "Disturbances of Nervous Function."
Although written for the practitioner and teacher of clinical neurology, the handbook, and certainly this volume, should be of considerable value to physicians and professors in the areas of psychiatry, neurosurgery and internal medicine.
