Ballistocardiography edited by Dennis Deuchar is a collection of original communications presented at the Sixth European Congress on Ballistocardiography held in April 1967. It is not a textbook or a compendium.
An initial chapter by an authority in the field, concisely describing the basics of ballistocardiography and alluding to more sophisticated techniques of recording, would have been extremely helpful in making this book more meaningful to the neophyte ballistocardiographer.
Papers could have been more appropriately organized. For example, following the introductory chapter several articles on ballistocardiograms in normal subjects would have been helpful. Such papers as "The Configuration of the Ultra-Low Frequency Vector Displacement BCG in Man" by Batelaan et al, "The Ballistocardiographic `H' Wave and other Cardiologic Parameters" by Tabeau, "Reproducibility of the Ballistocardiographic Signal" by Chignon et al, "Relation between Systolic Ballistocardiographic Waves and the Preceding Diastolic Period" by Moreira and his colleagues, and "Peculiarities of the Transmission
