This slender volume is a brief (and to some extent superficial) review of the main abnormalities of hemoglobin synthesis and their associated clinical syndromes. The writing is clear and direct, but the manual seems to fall somewhere between a simple outline of abnormalities plus a few laboratory tests for determining them, and a much more thorough treatment of this tremendously important subject. As such, it lacks the virtue of true brevity of an outline and fails to offer the depth of a more substantial treatise. Its price of $7.25 seems a little high.
While I cannot fault the book itself, I cannot visualize any particular purpose to which it can be put.
