The authors of this text have presumably attempted to create a "working manual" on venous and lymphatic disease of the leg. They have had only limited success. Sections on conservative treatment of venous disease, and those dealing with radiographic diagnosis are particularly good. On the other hand, there are chapters which are extremely deficient in adequate references; on occasion, citations given in the text are not to be found in the reference section.
In addition, unsupported personal judgments are not uncommon, and since many of the opinions advocate practices not universally accepted, it seems improper not to point out the possibility of legitimate controversy. These defects severely limit the usefulness of this small manual, in my opinion, although those physicians who see many patients with venous and lymphatic disorders of the leg might find the sections on radiographic diagnosis, conservative therapy, and rare diseases of the veins rather helpful.
