ABSTRACT

This is a collection of papers and panels delivered at a medical-surgical symposium on rheumatic and coronary heart disease sponsored by St. Barnabas Hospital in New York city on Dec 10, 11, and 12, 1965.

The symposium was divided into four main sections: (1) "Medical Treatment of Rheumatic Heart Disease"; (2) "Surgical Treatment of Rheumatic Heart Disease"; (3) "Treatment of Myocardial Infarction"; and (4) "Topics of Current Interest in Coronary Artery Disease," which included discussions of coronary care units, myocardial revascularization procedures, and direct coronary artery surgery.

The list of participants in this symposium reads like a "Who's Who" in cardiovascular medicine and surgery and includes Lord Brock of Wimbledon, Paul Dudley White, Samuel A. Levine (to whose memory this book is dedicated), Charles P. Bailey, Dwight E. Harken, Arthur M. Master, C. Walton Lillehei, William M. Likoff, F. Mason Sones, Albert Starr, and Arthur M.
