ABSTRACT

This is the most exciting set of books to cross my desk in recent months. Radiologists Teplick and colleagues have raided the lush teaching files at Hannemann and the Philadelphia Veterans' Hospital, and their marvelous booty is shared in the publication of these remarkable volumes.

The format is unique; it follows the organization of Beeson-McDermott, and includes one or more radiographs representing over 800 diseases! The prefatory remarks state "... this book makes no attempt to be a text in medicine...." The wisdom of this decision is appreciated when one sits down with the text of medicine alongside these companion volumes; they complement each other to perfection, The brief descriptions in Teplick are succinct and often include pertinent, nonradiologic information. The legends are well done. These books would be of significant value alone, but when used with the Textbook of Medicine, they are an exercise in elegant pedagogy.
