Recent Advances in the Diagnosis of Cancer.

This 310-page monograph is a summary of the Ninth Annual Clinical Conference held at the M. D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute in Houston. It is comprised of progress reports in various fields related to cancer; they are contributed primarily by members of the staff and several guest speakers. This type of monograph has some limited value over the current medical literature in that it gathers together a number of interesting reports but, unfortunately, lags behind current journals by about one year.

Some of the reports are geared only for the specialist in pathology or nuclear medicine and offer little value to the clinician caring for the cancer patient. This is particularly true of the detailed and somewhat belabored discussion of advances in scanning techniques.
