This book is the record of a conference held in Oslo, Sept 10-11, 1965, attended by individuals working in the field of pulmonary circulation. The conference was moderated by Ole Storstein, MD, of Oslo. Investigators from Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Norway presented the results of their studies. This report is not a comprehensive review of the normal and abnormal attributes of the lesser circulation. It records the considerable discussion of pulmonary vasomotor regulation and the behavior of the pulmonary capillaries. Some aspects of the physiologic effects of changes in blood volume were also presented. Anatomic and physiologic evidence of bronchopulmonary shunts and communications between the extra- and intrathoracic circulation were presented. The effects of some pulmonary and cardiac abnormalities upon the circulation, and the surgical approach to the correction of certain conditions associated with pulmonary hypertension, stimulated lively discussion.
