The proceedings of this symposium include the individual articles of 24 authors and panels. The format of publication is clear and well organized. The diagrams and tables are well reproduced, although many of the latter represent work done previously and not credited with reference in the legends.
The work is primarily a reference source of basic material which is almost invariably applied to clinical situations. Almost without exception, the presentations are given with great clarity. They furnish interesting reading, irrespective of their importance in clinical application by the internist, who has a reasonable acquaintance with this particular field of pulmonary, circulatory, and metabolic disorders related to oxygen transport and effects of oxygen deprivation.
The several panels serve to introduce new thoughts, critical analyses of the papers given, and occasionally new works of the participants, who are not necessarily contributors to the articles preceding the panel. The tables of reference are
