The earlier editions of Drill's Pharmacology in Medicine were well received and need no introduction. The requirement for constant revision and updating in a rapidly expanding field has made a third edition necessary. Such a task is forbidding, and even though the individual authors are primarily involved, the editor must bear heavy responsibility. Notwithstanding the title of the third edition, the mantle of editorship has passed to Professor di Palma. He has shown himself equal to the challenge.
Although the scope of the current edition is generally similar to previous ones, there are important and inevitable changes. The list of contributors contains many new names; of the 93 authors only 35 had written chapters in the second edition.
