ABSTRACT

Anthologies are marvelous bedtime reading and when an anthology is collected by an extremely perceptive person whose prejudices happen to coincide fairly neatly with your own, you may expect a feast of delicacies to be taken at various rates and in varying quantities, depending on the mood and the occasion. The temptation here is to take too much at a time. The title of this book, which has gone through many editions, Maurice Baring got from a dream he had that having crossed the river Styx he was requested to declare the literary baggage which he had been traveling with through life.
