This small book is an excellent introduction to gastroenterology and liver disease for the student or practitioner. It is a systematic review of the field presenting just enough physiology and biochemistry to permit understanding of the pathogenesis of the major diseases and to comprehend the basis of various tests. The text is embellished with approximately 100 line drawings which present the essence of anatomy, radiological findings, or deranged physiology.
I particularly liked this book for the clear way in which a great deal of material is presented in a very short space. In reading the various sections there is a surprising amount of material included. The style of writing is fresh, and the text is supported by a small number of references for further reading.
