This small paperback volume could be aptly called a nonbook. It is a collection of eleven papers presented at a symposium of the 5th Congress of the International Academy of Pathology in 1964. Most of the topics are treated in rather summary fashion, and as such are unsuitable for journal publication. That this justifies a publication of this type is debatable. Certainly the inclusiveness of the title is misleading, and the papers are uneven. Some are little more than an outline of the topic, followed by suitable references—usually to the author's own original work which must be consulted if one's interest has been aroused. Others are presented as original work. Still others are quite worthy as a summary of current status. The list of contributors is impressive and the symposium itself may have been outstanding qua symposium.
