This volume is an addition to the Elsevier Monographs on Toxic Agents, edited by Dr. Ethel Browning. It represents essentially an abridgement of an earlier monograph entitled The Halogenated Aliphatic, Olefinic, Cyclic, Aromatic and Aliphatic-Aromatic Hydrocarbons Including the Halogenated Insecticides, Their Toxicity and Potential Dangers (Public Health Service Publication No. 414, US Government Printing Office, 1955). The descriptive material for those chemicals selected is as complete as originally presented in the 1955 publication, and also includes additional descriptive material which appeared in the literature up to about 1962.
The book is organized into two parts, part 1 deals with the saturated compounds, and part 2 deals with the unsaturated compounds. Part 1 is further subdivided into the methane and ethane derivatives. Most of the agents are chlorinated derivatives; however, some brominated, iodinated, and fluorinated derivatives are also described. The descriptions have been very systematically organized, so that the reader can
