This book is a collection of 15 papers on various aspects of tissue and organ transplantation. Approximately half of the papers deal with basic areas of transplantation biology, while the remaining ones treat topics of a strictly clinical or clinically oriented nature. An attempt is made to present a cross section of the current problems of transplantation biology and clinical transplantation. With very few exceptions, the contributors achieve this aim.
Of the papers dealing with basic aspects of transplantation biology, those on histocompatibility systems, the role of lymphocytes in graft destruction, the transplantation of hemopoietic tissues, the thymus, and the induction of transplantation tolerance in adult animals represent succinct, readable, up-to-date reviews of these subjects.
