Three German editions of this text span the period from 1939 to 1962. The second American edition is a translation of the third German version. Linn J. Boyd, MD is the translator.
The second American edition is technically superior to the first. An increased page size has resulted in more logical spacing and arrangement of illustrations and a larger type size makes the text more easily read. An expanded table of contents topical outline allows rapid reference to specific entities. The arrangement of material is unchanged in the second edition. Major chapters on examination technique, the normal heart, cardiac pathology, pericardial diseases, the pulmonary circulation, and the aorta are presented. The examination section dwells on archaic orthodiagraphy and roentgenkymography while skirting angiocardiography. Normal heart roentgen anatomy is well covered by detailed drawings which illustrate standard roentgen projections.
