This third volume of Becker's Handbuch deals with the following topics: The Inborn Errors of Metabolism (Pfändler); Diseases of the Endocrine System (Lehmann); Diseases of the Urogenital System (divided into sections on the urinary organs, the male generative organs, the female generative organs, and functions and anomalies of the sex chromosomes, gonadal dysgenesis and intersexuality, all by Prof W. Lenz); The Myopathies (Becker); The Allergic Diseases (Schade, who also wrote a chapter on Rheumatic Diseases in this volume); Infectious Diseases (Von Verschuer); and Malignant Tumors (Von Verschuer).
The reviewer has the distinct impression that it is quite impossible to overestimate the importance of Becker's Handbuch and especially this volume, which treats the aspects of medical genetics in which the most exciting and rapid advances have been made, namely, the inborn errors of metabolism and much of cytogenetics.
