This book is a careful report of three years' experience in the teaching of outpatient psychotherapy to the senior class at the University of Chicago Medical School. It will be of interest and value to anybody who has ever been involved in or is thinking of becoming involved in such teaching, especially of medical students. The authors make no claim to having performed a controlled experiment, but are rather reporting the correlations among a number of both patient and therapist (ie, student) variables, including many "before" and "after" measures for both groups. Time limitations were such that the usual patient-student pair were involved in no more than 12 to 16 weekly interviews. The first few chapters deal with the organization of the program and management of various practical details. There then follow observations on the patterns of behavior usually used by the student therapist. About half of the book is
