Diseases of the Adrenal Glands: Radiologic Diagnosis.

This comprehensive monograph on radiologic diagnosis of adrenal gland disease with emphasis on the use of presacral retroperitoneal pneumography is well presented and documented from a review of the world literature. Experience gleaned from an analysis of 323 retroperitoneal pneumograms performed at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center between 1952 and 1962 coupled with knowledge of clinical, surgical, and pathological findings makes this an authoritative, yet concise work. The emphasis on the localization and differential diagnosis of adrenal gland disease is forthrightly stated without lengthy digressions but with excellent reproductions of selective presacral retroperitoneal air roentgenograms. Roentgen specific signs differentiating cortical tumors and pheochromocytomas are described with appropriate illustrations. This feature should be of especial significance and interest to radiologists. Other adrenal lesions presented are carcinoma, adenoma, cyst, neuroblastoma, ganglioneuroma, and cortical hyperplasia. A chapter on technique and indications for presacral retroperitoneal pneumography is included.
