The preface states that the prime object of this volume is to enable physicians to discover the allergenic causes of bronchial asthma and to control them with specific antiallergic therapy. However, the book is concerned primarily with a presentation of the author's thesis that asthma not due to inhalants is almost always caused by food allergy. Food allergy is reported in Table 6 to play a role in 75% of all cases of bronchial asthma and to be the excessive cause of 26% of cases. This unorthodox theory of the pathogenesis of bronchial asthma is based on the therapeutic success of the authors' cerealfree elimination diet. The evidence is reported in 47 case histories in the appendix as well as numerous summary tables and anecdotes in the body of the text.
