Glees was formerly University Demonstrator and Lecturer in Physiology at Oxford University. Currently he is Director of the Institute for Histology and Experimental Neuroanatomy, and Professor at the University of Göttingen. His book on neuroglia which appeared in 1955 is well known in neurological circles.
This English edition has been translated by the author from the German text entitled Morphology and Physiology of the Nervous System, published in 1957, by Georg Thieme Company, Stuttgart. The translation into English required some three years and made it convenient to revise some of the work and to include recent advances.
Methods of experimental neurology are described in 83 pages in the first two chapters. These chapters probably account for the fact that the book is not entitled a neurophysiological treatise. The experiments that traced the connections of the nervous system, the recording of the electrical activity of the neurones, and the biochemical aspects
