ABSTRACT

The Friends Service Committee has been outstanding for its concrete contributions to international welfare based on the hope that out of it a spirit of calm and tolerance rather than obsession with destruction may occupy and preoccupy mankind. It is a refreshing change from the insistent clangor of the daily press and the strange infighting of the Pentagon where the several military services are vying with each other for larger appropriations to study means of extinguishing large blocs and perhaps all of the human race to see cold reason throw cold water on the cold war. This little booklet discloses no panacea but provides another view of a world in peril where brinkmanship, even if inadvertent, sometimes seems to have replaced more thoughtful ways of international diplomacy.
