ABSTRACT

Biochemistry textbooks vary widely in depth of detail, in degree of sophistication, and in their general purpose. Authors often express their purpose by such titular addenda as "—for medical students" or "—in dentistry." One finds, all too often, that the addendum is legitimized by some sections of specialized interest in fine print or in an appendiceal chapter, distinct from the main flow of the discussion. The present text is simply and bravely titled Biochemistry, and it can best be defined as an introductory text suitable for use by a wide variety of student groups. The authors have used some clever devices very effectively. The left page margins are very broad, so that the many boldface and italicized marginal captions stand out clearly. All formulae and mathematical statements are in red, setting them off sharplyrom the text. There is very little fine print seset-off,low of the text is so smooth that
