This volume is a reprint of a series of articles published in 1961 in the journal Progress in Cardiovascular Diseases. Dr. Friedberg points out in the preface that the major emphasis is on the relation of the kidney, fluid, and electrolytes to congestive heart failure and on the mechanisms of action and effects of various diuretics. Other chapters deal with such basic aspects of renal physiology as the countercurrent concepts in the production of dilute and concentrated urine and stop flow techniques for the localization of sites of ion transport in the tubule as well as sites of action of various drugs. Several chapters are concerned with renal and renal vascular diseases.
