This book is a series of fourteen monographs, tied together by a loose reticular framework, with special orientation toward the pulmonary circulation. The first seven chapters deal with the anatomy, physiology, radiology, and pathology of the pulmonary vascular system. A chapter entitled "The Nature of Pulmonary Hypertension" and one on electrocardiography are added for good measure. The last part of the book concerns the diseases in which blood vessels are primarily involved. Since blood vessels are involved in practically every disease of the lungs, the editors had to decide what things to include and what to omit. The chapters on mitral valve disease, congenital heart disease, pulmonary vascular obstruction, pulmonary hyaline membrane syndrome of the newborn, and pulmonary edema are excellent. Dr. Hugh Jones has the difficult task of covering chronic pulmonary disease in one chapter, and parts of this chapter are sketchy.
