An irresistible urge to collect a volume of essays or write an autobiography often assails those who have precious little to say but have an enhanced notion of their own uniqueness. Only rarely do such perceptive scholars as Sir Henry Dale, who have made significant contributions to science and have achieved wisdom which makes their words valuable to society, set them before us. In this respect, Sir Henry Dale reminds one of Sherrington in the scholarly pursuit of scientific quests carried to successful fulfillment and the ability to put them down in delightful prose.
