ABSTRACT

IT IS WITH considerable regret that the retirement of Dr. Russell M. Wilder from the Archives Editorial Board after twenty-one years of continuous service is announced. He has served enthusiastically and well in that capacity, while shouldering a multitude of other responsibilities which have made him a widely known and respected figure in American medicine. After his early training at the University of Chicago and Rush Medical College he was a member of the Mayo Clinic from 1919 to 1929. He then accepted the post of chairman of the department of medicine in the University of Chicago from 1929 to 1931, returning then to Rochester, Minn., where he served as head of the department of medicine of the Mayo Foundation until 1950. At this time he became director of the National Institute of Arthritis and Metabolic Diseases of the United States Public Health Service, a post which he relinquished to
