This book is a collection of lectures on diverse subjects of general medical interest. They have little interrelationship between themselves and appear to be a series of conferences given to students by several lecturers under the direction of the author. The subjects included are functional renal insufficiency, the syndrome of endobronchial hypertension, nonoperative treatment of chronic nontuberculous empyema, mass roentgen ray surveys, carcinoma of the common bile duct, endocranial metastases of pulmonary neoplasms and hemorrhagic pleurisies.
The bulk of the book is devoted, however, to a discussion on pulmonary embolism. This subject is extensively covered in all its aspects, including its pathogenesis, clinical features, experimental data, prevention and treatment. The bibliography is ample and authoritative, and the presentations should be of value to Latin-American students and physicians.
