Mississippi Valley Medical Society Contest.
—Dr. John F. Casey, visiting physician, St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Boston, won the third annual Essay Contest of the Mississippi Valley Medical Society "for the best unpublished essay on a subject of practical and applicable value to the general practitioner of medicine" and will receive a cash prize of $100, a gold medal, a certificate award and an invitation to present his essay at the annual meeting of the Mississippi Valley Medical Society. Dr. F. Stanley Morest, Kansas City, Mo., received the second certificate of merit and Dr. Charles W. Pavey, Columbus, Ohio, the third. Dr. Casey will address the Mississippi Valley Medical Society on the subject of his winning essay, "A Study of the Use of Sulfapyridine and Sulfathiazole in Pneumonia with Particular Reference to the Treatment of Pneumonia by the General Practitioner," at Rock Island, 111., on Sept. 26, 1940.
