During the course of investigations regarding the presence and amount in the blood of various nitrogenous waste products usually excreted by the kidneys in patients with essential arterial hypertension but without nephritis, similar studies were made on eighty-eight patients with chronic nephritis and hypertension or with myocardial decompensation. Although similar studies have been reported by others, it is believed the results presented here will be of interest and afford suitable control to those previously reported.1
The patients studied are divided into three groups. All had arterial hypertension. Group I includes the patients with uremia; Group II those with a moderate increase in the various nonprotein nitrogen constituents of the blood, and Group III those with a slight increase.
Table 1 includes the maximum, minimum and average values for the urea, total nonprotein nitrogen, uric acid and creatinin of the blood for each of the three groups.
