To the Editor It is curious that the findings by Lehman and colleagues1 contradict those of multiple published studies that support the benefits of computer-aided detection (CAD).24 An extensive body of literature strongly supports the use of CAD in the diagnosis of breast cancer.25 Significant flaws in the research methodology by Lehman and colleagues resulted in findings that are incongruent with the overwhelming majority of peer-reviewed, published studies on the topic. Lehman and colleagues are the only researchers to report a decrease in sensitivity or an increase in specificity with the use of CAD.15 The researchers also fail to specify the stage of cancer detected among patients studied. It is possible tumors detected with CAD were smaller and earlier stage, which would support other studies that indicate CAD is successful in identifying early-stage cancers.1
