Drs Brown and Huesch raise several important points in their letters regarding our Research Letter on $4 generic drugs¹: (1) traveling costs were not subtracted from the savings; (2) Medicare savings were inflated because of the donut hole; (3) other unmeasured potential negative impacts exist; and (4) some stores lose money from offering $4 programs so $4 programs might not be sustainable at the societal level if everyone were to switch to the $4 programs.
